In July 2023 Dr. Gordon Giesbrecht travelled to Ukraine to work alongside our partners at the Assemblies of God church in Lutsk.

Supporting Displaced Ukrainian Children in Turkey
Last month Dr. Gordon Giesbrecht took a trip to Turkey to visit our missions partners Tonia and Alexey Pankov. Dr. Giesbrecht, who operates the Laboratory for Exercise and Environmental Medicine at the University of Manitoba, went over with a simple mission: to introduce North American sports to Russian speaking Ukrainian children in Turkey.

Heroes for Children Awards - Celebrating Pastor Gerry's Reception of the Rev. Dr. Ken McMillan Award
On Sunday, January 23 Pastor Gerry was recognized as one of five Canadian "heroes" who received awards on behalf of World Vision for their commitment to helping the world's most vulnerable children. Together we celebrate Pastor Gerry and his reception of this award which demonstrates a true reflection of his heart for compassion and justice.

Missions Partner Update: Taveta and Tunyo (Kenya, World Vision)
Following Chosen Sunday in Fall 2019, the Soul Sanctuary community now supports over 300 children and their families in Tunyo and Taveta Kenya through our partnership with World Vision. Check out our 2021 partnership report and join us on December 5 and 12 as we connect with our partners in Kenya.
Our Academic Team is Headed to Ukraine
This afternoon a team of educators from Soul Sanctuary, composed of Pastor Gerry Michalski, Sharon Michalski, Dr. Gordon Giesbrecht and Rick Wiebe are headed to western Ukraine to lecture at Volyn National University in Lutsk. The team will spend time building relationships with the academic staff at the university and will teach and preach at a pastors conference for our eastern European missions partner, the Russian/Ukrainian Assemblies of God.
Pakistani Refugee Sponsorship: Update and Call to Action
Since the Spring of 2019 the Soul Sanctuary community has been working towards sponsoring a refugee family from Pakistan. We’ve received an update concerning their relocation plans.
Missions Spotlight: Home of the Good Shepherd (Brazil)
This Easter the Soul Sanctuary community raised over $7,000 for Home of the Good Shepherd (HGS) in Brazil! These funds will go towards furnishing new accommodations for children at the home.
Living Word: Gardening and Woodcutting Ministries
Last year the Living Word team started a garden and wood ministry with the purpose of providing a safe, healthy and supportive environment for women and men from all cultures where purpose, hope and healing through Jesus is offered and encouraged.

This line of thinking can get us caught in pursuing our own plans instead of the plans that God has for us in Christ Jesus.
Travel to Ukraine with Your Church
We’d like to extend you an invitation to travel to Ukraine this July with a team from Soul Sanctuary. From July 4-15, 2020 our church will send a team of native English speakers to Ukraine to teach English to high school students at a youth camp in the Carpathian mountains.
