Soul Devotional - May 29, 2014
A few years ago I was working at the University of Manitoba during an election on campus and I had the opportunity to interact with a host of random students. I remember that after a while each face began to blend in with the next, the monotony was killing me. Things changed when I was talking to a person who happened to be wearing a pair of awesome shoes. If you know me you know I like fashion, and this person had good taste! So after they walked past me I yelled “WAIT! I LIKE YOUR SHOES!” the smile that lit up across that persons face was insane, the monotony of my activity was shattered as I carried that reaction with me for the rest of my day. It was just me saying a simple five words but had a great impact on someone else.
'd like to specify our focus to the encouragement of believers. I love 1 Thessalonians 5 because it is all about encouragement.
"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. [...] And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone."
It's time we start offering genuine compliments to each other, building up the body of Christ through encouragement.
Here is the challenge, I want you to be mindful of those around them and to pay some compliments this week. Start by encouraging someone close to you, a spouse, kids or family member. See the power that an encouraging word can hold.
