Back To School Supply Drive

Undoubtedly, like me, you have been watching the news and have been seeing the rising case count of Covid-19 here in Manitoba, and it may be bringing you frustration, fear, stress, anxiety, or something else entirely; which is then coupled with the emotion that this time of year generally brings:  sadness that summer is almost over; bewilderment that your child is another year older and going to the next grade; or uncertainty as you have to get out of summer mode and get back into school mode after an extended time away.

But then for some, there is the additional weight of back-to-school shopping.  A quick Google search turned up many suggested back-to-school shopping lists, which, to purchase their entirety, could cost anywhere from $132-$220 - which, when during a pandemic where so many have lost jobs, and families have lost that reliable and steady stream of income, the thought of spending such an amount on back-to-school supplies is understandably overwhelming.  

It’s with this, we want to invite you to partner with Soul Kids and Living Word Temple, to help make a difference right here in our city.  Living Word serves kids and families at William Whyte School and they have recognized a need first hand. Typically, they have offered meals for students but due to the pandemic, the feasibility of this is in question.  An alternative was sought for how we could join with Living Word in showing Jesus’ love to the children at William Whyte School.  

Thus, the thought of a supply drive for students at William Whyte was born.  

So, as you begin or continue your back to school shopping, we want to invite you to join us in purchasing additional supplies for students at William Whyte school; anything from binders, to pencil crayons, to pens, to lunch kits, to glue sticks, to pencil cases, to any of the other many supplies students need.  

Then, on Thursday, September 3, you, along with your families, can drop off the supplies you purchased to me, here at Soul Sanctuary.  These supplies will then be brought to Living Word Temple to be distributed to students before the start of school. If you’re unable to aid practically with this, we ask that you would join us in prayer. Pray for the community at Living Word at this time and also pray for the families in the city that we will be serving.
